Class Experience

Students will be taught basic foundational yoga skills which will lead to improved posture, strength, balance, and confidence! Each class begins with a short centering and calm breathing, followed by the yoga practice and ends with lying down final relaxation, or savasana. Short sequences of yoga postures will progress into a longer flow in the last class, once preliminary postures are understood. I will demonstrate postures and sequences as well as provide clear oral instructions. I will allow time for questions and comments during class and at the end.
Week 1: Awareness of the bottoms of the feet in standing postures, such as Mountain, Warrior I, Warrior II, and Tree.
Week 2: Awareness of the alignment of the spine in postures including Warrior III.
Week 3: Introduction to the work of the muscles of the shoulders and front of torso in postures such as Downward Facing dog, and cobra.
Week 4: Putting it all together: smile, breathe, and enjoy the flow of yoga!

Learning Goals

This series will focus on standing alignment which includes placement of feet, how to engage the muscles of the feet, legs and core, and proper standing posture.

We will only work on certain yoga postures to ensure safety. Students should not deviate from these postures in class. Teacher expertise and credentials
Hello! I absolutely love being a teacher! I have been teaching children yoga since 2013, and adults since 2014. Prior to becoming a Yoga Alliance certified yoga teacher, I received my M.Ed. and worked as a Montessori teacher for 3-6 year olds for over a decade. Amazingly, there are many things in common between the Montessori philosophy and the yoga philosophy! At the root of them both is peacefulness, finding the quiet within yourself and then bringing that to your larger community, whether that is your family, classroom, neighborhood, or beyond. I find joy in sharing both the internal (breathing, stillness, kindness, self-awareness) and external (body movement, self-control, strength) aspects of yoga with my students of ALL ages. I work with young children through seniors who may need to practice yoga in a chair. My own yoga practice has been ongoing since I was a college student. Everyday I come to my mat to move, practice prānāyāma (breathing practices) and meditation. I am so thankful for my practice and the insights I have gained in this work.
In addition to teaching Yoga and Mindfulness for children ages 3-18, I love teaching Vinyasa Flow, Gentle Yoga, Yin Yoga, and Yoga Basics.
I have two daughter and two dogs. When I’m not on my yoga mat you will find me outdoors working in my garden, hiking, camping, exploring, reading, or studying yoga philosophy. A fun fact about me is that I have freckles with the irises of my eyes! I also speak French, a traveller’s level of Mandarin, and I am studying the ancient language of yoga: Sanskrit!
Teaching credentials: M.Ed., ERYT-200; RYT-500
The above credentials mean that I have taught over 1200 hours of yoga thus far.
