Class experience
This is level 2 of my beginning reading class (level 1 is not required if your child is already at a certain level of reading proficiency). In this class, the treasure hunt continues! Your child will participate in several interactive activities during our class time together. Each learning activity earns a peak into a special mystery tin. All of the tins have a little surprise, but some of the tins have a gem. The students must work together to collect 5 gems throughout class. Once the 5th...
Master the sounds and sound combinations - I, th, R, R blends, N, NG, S, S blends, D, and E. Students will work to increase reading fluency beyond basic CVC words.
* White copy paper. * White cardstock may be recommended for a few of the printouts, but white copy paper can also work. * Printer. * Small hands on "manipulatives." I will give more direction about these as we begin class. These can be almost any sort of small item (but not something sharp or anything that would roll away) - Large buttons, small rocks, pennies or nickels, game pieces, poker chips, Legos, etc. Even cut up pieces of paper can work. * Scissors * Glue stick * Please be aware that you will need to print off worksheets prior to class. Some of these worksheets may require a small amount of cutting prior to class. * Rewards are encouraged (more details will be given after our first class). You likely already have several "rewards" around your house already.
Learners will not need to use any apps or websites beyond the standard Outschool tools.
1) Your child is the one taking this class. However, some assistance may be necessary from time to time - especially for the first session or two. I do ask that you or another helper be available to assist your child from time to time. 2) There will be activities that need to be worked on outside of class time. The activities should be easy and fun, but are necessary to help your child master each week's skills. You or another helper will need to assist your child for 10 minutes, 4-5 times a week.
I discovered that I had a passion for teaching 15 years ago. It was at that time that I taught my oldest daughter, then 4, to read. I loved it! I have dedicated the past 14 years of my life to all things reading - researching, working with...
