This is level 2 of my beginning reading class (level 1 is not required if your child is already at a certain level of reading proficiency). In this class, the treasure hunt continues! Your child will participate in several interactive activities during our class time together. Each learning activity earns a peak into a special mystery tin. All of the tins have a little surprise, but some of the tins have a gem. The students must work together to collect 5 gems throughout class. Once the 5th gem is found, the gems can be exchanged for a mystery surprise. This class is not merely exposure to phonics - your child will follow a systematic progression of learning that builds upon their existing knowledge. In each class, a new sound or blend will be learned. As your child learns and masters each sound (or sound combination), they will also increase their reading fluency to include larger, more complex words. Week 1: Sounds - I, th Word - PIG, BIT, HIT, TIP, HIP, BIB, BIG, thAT Week 2: Sounds - R and "R" blends - TR, GR, CR, BR Words - RAT, RUG, RUB, ROB, RAG, RIP, RIB, TRIP, TRAP, GRAB, CRIB, CRAB, BRAG Week 3: Sounds - N and "NG" combination Words - IN, ON, ANT, PIN, PAN, RUN, RAN, CAN, NOT, BUN, GUN, TIN, NUT, NIP, NAP, HANG, BANG, RING, RUNG Week 4: Sounds - S, and S blends Words - SIT, SAT, BUS, SUN, GAS, PASS, RUST, STOP, SPIN, SONG, SING, SANG, STUNT, STRING, STRONG, PANTS, CATS, POTS, CUPS, thIS Week 5: Sounds - D, E Words - DOG, DIG, HID, DOT, ADD, BAD, PAD, AND, HAND, SAND, BAND, DRIP, DROP, DRAG, RED, HEN, PEN, TEN, BED, BEG, BET, PET, NET, RENT, STEP, NEST, PEST, BEST, REST *** Please note that we will also be continuing to focus on the sounds and words that were introduced in level one of this course. The sounds that were introduced in level one were U, P, C, A, T, the, H, O, G, and B. This class is the perfect next step for a child that has completed and mastered the material in level 1 of my course. However, if your child already has some foundational reading skills in place, they might be able to start with level 2 of my course. Is this the right class for my child? 1) A child that has completed and mastered the letter sounds and words taught in my first class, is ready to move on to level 2 of my course. Please note that some children require longer than the 5 weeks given in my class to quickly recall the sounds that the letters make. If you feel that your child has not quite mastered the material in level 1, please spend a bit more time at home continuing to review the homework activities, before advancing to level 2. 2) A child that knows the majority of their letter sounds and has had some experience blending CVC words, but is not overly proficient at it, might be able to start with this level. 3) A child that knows their letter sounds fairly well and has had quite a bit of practice blending words, but often guesses what the words are, might find that this is the perfect level for them to start at. 4) A child that is doing well blending basic CVC words, but has not yet progressed much beyond that into blends will likely benefit from this class. *** If you are still unsure if this class is the right fit for your child, please message me and I can help you decide if this class sounds like the correct placement for your child. Please Note: 1) Your child is the one taking this class. However, some assistance may be necessary from time to time - especially for the first session or two. I do ask that you or another helper be available to assist your child from time to time. 2) There will be activities that need to be worked on outside of class time. The activities should be easy and fun, but are necessary to help your child master each week's skills. You or another helper will need to assist your child for 10 minutes, 4-5 times a week.
Learning Goals
Master the sounds and sound combinations - I, th, R, R blends, N, NG, S, S blends, D, and E. Students will work to increase reading fluency beyond basic CVC words.

Teacher expertise and credentials
Bachelor's Degree in Business Administration and Management from Cornerstone University
I discovered that I had a passion for teaching 15 years ago. It was at that time that I taught my oldest daughter, then 4, to read. I loved it! I have dedicated the past 14 years of my life to all things reading - researching, working with professionals, and tutoring. I have gone on to tutor several children one on one, and in small group class settings. I have helped many children learn to read, and have fun while doing it.
I believe, and have seen first hand, that children learn best when they are happy, engaged, and having fun! My goal is to put a smile on your child's face, and perhaps even get a laugh or two. When your child feels good, they can and will learn many things.
