Description
Class Experience
*** Flexible schedule. This class does not meet live. *** Learn how to read through fun interactive activities and games! This class is not merely exposure to phonics - your child will follow a systematic progression of learning. In each video, a new sound will be learned. As your child learns and masters each sound, they will also learn the skills necessary to blend the sounds together to make words! Week 1: Sounds - U, P Word - UP Week 2: Sounds - C, A Words...
Master the sounds U, P, C, A, T, H, O, G, and B, and learn to read (NOT memorize!) CVC words that use those letters.
This class does have homework, but it should be fun and quick. A few 10 minute sessions each week will allow your child to continue mastering the concepts worked on in the video lessons.
* White copy paper. * White cardstock may be recommended for a few of the printouts, but white copy paper can also work. * Printer. * Small hands on "manipulatives." These can be almost any sort of small item (but not something sharp or anything that would roll away) - Large buttons, small rocks, pennies or nickels, game pieces, poker chips, legos etc. Even cut up pieces of paper can work. * Scissors * Glue stick * Please be aware that you will need to print off worksheets each week. Some of these worksheets may require a small amount of cutting. * Rewards are encouraged (more details are given in our second lesson). You likely already have several "rewards" around your house already.
No live meetings, and an estimated 1 - 2 hours per week outside of class.
There will be activities that need to be worked on outside of video time. The activities should be easy and fun, but are necessary to help your child master each week's skills. You or another helper will need to assist your child for 10 minutes, 4-5 times a week.
