In this one month survey session, students will explore the elements of modern pop culture.

Beginner - Advanced Level
Teddy bears, Madonna, Star Wars, gag me with a spoon...what do these things have in common? If you guessed pop culture, great job! In this informal four-week discussion class, we'll define and explore pop culture by identifying the various categories that often comprise it, such as film, slang, music, fashion, news and sports. We'll briefly look at past historical trends, but our focus will mainly be in the 20th and 21st centuries--the eras we're most familiar with because they're the most...
Students will learn about and discuss the general, various aspects that comprise pop culture. Students will hopefully become more aware and cognizant of the prevalence of pop culture in our daily lives, and how it shapes culture as a whole.

In surveying trends or events--particularly news events--some particulars of pop culture may detail mature subject matter (the assassinations of JFK and MLK, Jr., for example). Interested younger students are welcome provided that parents/guardians are okay with occasional provocative content.
