The skill of using systematically learned phonics and pairing this with independent and creative writing, without tears, is very individual to each child. The gap can be so huge between one child to the next and every child begins to hear the sounds of words at different stages. Therefore, it is very difficult to offer this in a classroom based situation. A child develops much faster by the attention given to them as individuals, and their confidence then is quickly established to a 'I can do this by myself!'

In my teaching career of being an Early Years teacher and a homeschool mother, my approach to teaching children to read and write has always begun with drawing and emergent writing, based on stories that we have read together. As I introduce new phonics sounds, I encourage the children to remember these sounds when we do our emergent writing tasks. The children always love writing what they suggest themselves and I am there to help them sound out the words, and gently push new phonics sounds into their developing bank of words.

Eventually the child begins to write tricky words within their writing and thus use their knowledge to progress in their writing. This method is very different to learning spelling by rote, and the writing is purely based on the needs of each child.

I have found that my set of twins who have been taught together can write together, and they often help each other, which in turn speeds up their learning. However, it is absolutely necessary that the children are at the same level. It is difficult to teach children at different levels and can affect the confidence in their creativity. 

I do understand that the cost of private tutoring can get expensive for families, and being a mother of eight myself, I understand this perfectly. Therefore, if you have more than one child in your family that are at the same level and would benefit from this class, please do not hesitate to contact me. I am perfectly willing to keep the price the same for two children in a family, especially if their levels are comparable. I wish to support and help families with this wonderful skill to a point where parent's can take the skill themselves and continue teaching their children in this creative way. You may find you only need one block to learn together how to begin, or you may wish for me to take you through the phonics program and pair this with writing until they are fully established little writers.

My 5 year old set of twins have been taught this way for 18 months, and now all of a sudden have started to write continuously in all areas. I receive pictures and notes covered in beautiful writing, often that I have to get them to tell me what they have written, but nevertheless they are growing in confidence. This method has worked beautifully for all my 4 children before them, and I will continue to do it for the two children after them. 

During my first ever teaching practice as a trainee teacher, I was taught how to teach this way from a wonderfully talented teacher, who taught me everything. I was amazed at how well this worked compared to the education that I received when I was a child. The style is very child orientated.

It is necessary before any trial class or block booking for me to fully understand exactly where your child is at and what sounds they do or do not know. Have they done this writing before? What 'tricky' words do they already know? 

Blocks that are booked with me will involve the development of their phonics sounds and tricky words. The classes will all be connected and discussed with you beforehand.
