Class Experience

The foundation of a good writer starts with the writing process. We will walk through this development together. To have a good flow in mind we will discuss the steps of making a PB&J sandwich. Secondly, we will translate those thoughts into drawings. Next, we will create a list of words to ensure their spelling is correct. It is ok if we end up spelling every word together in the sentence. Now we are ready to write a sentence to correspond to each illustration. We will end in a fun way by having them read their instructions to me. I will follow it so they can see the results of their work. Lastly, I will talk about proofreading techniques to improve their writing.

Learning Goals

The goal of this workshop is to develop their writing process by organizing their thoughts to make each instruction flow smoothly. Essentially we will create an outline with words in the process of checking our spelling. We are building our confidence with each step to create the instructions through drawing and writing.

Other Details

Supply List
Towards the end of the workshop, I will test their instructions. At this time, the students usually get a little hungry. It would be awesome if there is someone to help them make a Peanut Butter and Jelly Sandwich at home using their instructions.
External Resources
Learners will not need to use any apps or websites beyond the standard Outschool tools.

Profile
Teacher expertise and credentials
Albert Einstein said it best, "Education is not the learning of many facts, but the training of the mind to think." I am passionate about teaching beginner’s level business classes. Each class is carefully designed to teach kids useful skills that I wished I had more experience with before I joined the workforce. I teach from my experience but I also do a lot of research to provide them with up-to-date information and useful recommendations to further their development. I truly care about what I teach and how I teach it so I take a lot of time into developing each class.

My background is in manufacturing. I have 6 years of experience with a candy manufacturer Brown and Haley. They are known for Almond ROCA®. From there I worked with multiple industrial-type manufacturers. In addition to this, I have a Bachelor's and Master's degree in Business Administration with concentrations in Marketing and Finance from Pacific Lutheran University.

Teaching those business classes has lead to developing a few writing classes. I grew up in a multi-lingual house and without hesitation continue to pass that to my young daughter. I understand the best way for me to learn English as a second language. I want to share those techniques with students in similar situations so they can be successful too. I was born and raised in the States. I was fortunate to have wonderful teachers in my early development so as I grew older no one new in my life would know about those struggles. However, I always remember my roots and I am thankful for it.

I make sure each class has memorable lessons that will impact their personal and future work life. It will feel like a community with learners who have the common goal of improving their skills.

I have lived in 8 cities in 4 states so I have driven through many states. I have traveled to a handful of countries. I always try to find at least one American fast-food restaurant to try something different on their menu.

Another trivial fact about me is, I am an avid electric scooter rider with my small family. In fact, I never knew the beauty of each city until we started taking our scooters with us every weekend to explore beyond our neighborhood. It is fun to learn about new parks and a great way to get fresh air.
