Description

Class Experience

Students will learn about the characteristics of dinosaurs, geologic time periods of the Mesozoic (Triassic, Jurassic, and Cretaceous), methods in paleontology, evolutionary history of dinosaurs into birds, and features of modern day birds.
I teach this topic at the American Museum of Natural History as a museum educator in the Adventures in Science program.
Projects -
Week 1 - Create your own dinosaur species - poster or 3-D model
Week 2 - Make your own dino family tree
Week 3 - Design a transitional fossil - "from dino to bird"
Week 4 - Bird watching challenge or research a bird species
All videos will be provided as links to my unlisted YouTube channel. Handouts will be provided each week. Supplies needed for the projects: -Large paper to make a poster -Markers -Modeling clay, model magic, or other material for creating a 3-D model -Flat piece of cardboard -Empty cardboard box (shoebox is fine) Projects - Week 1 - Create your own dinosaur species - poster or 3-D model Week 2 - Dinosaur classification Week 3 - Flesh out a fossil activity Week 4 - Bird watching challenge
In addition to the Outschool classroom, this class uses:
Student projects can be posted in the classroom area for discussion and feedback.
No live meetings, and an estimated 1 - 2 hours per week outside of class.
