Description

Class Experience

Students will learn skills to help them with friendship, social skills, dealing with teasing, and others.
I have over 30 years experience as a teacher and elementary counselor. I am endorsed in El Ed, SPED K-12, Counseling 7-12 (Masters). The book makes reference to different birds- I am an avid bird lover and photographer. I teach birding classes on Outschool.
Students will read the chapter that goes with the bird for that week before class. For students who might need help reading, adults or older siblings might read it to them. Hopefully students will practice the skills during the week.
All learners will need the book "Speak Up and Get Along" By Scott Cooper and published by Free Spirit Publishing. (2019 Edition) Here are a few possible links. There are many places that carry used copies also. https://www.boystownpress.org/speak-up-and-get-along/ https://www.amazon.com/Speak-Up-Get-Along-Yourself/dp/1631983857/ref=asc_df_1631983857/?tag=&linkCode=df0&hvadid=366306902316&hvpos=&hvnetw=g&hvrand=13860268617162272869&hvpone=&hvptwo=&hvqmt=&hvdev=c&hvdvcmdl=&hvlocint=&hvlocphy=1020414&hvtargid=pla-813062469065&psc=1&ref=&adgrpid=79033900031&asin=1631983857&revisionId=&format=4&depth=1. 45 minutes per week in class, and maybe some time outside of class.
For students to be able to use the techniques regularly, it is suggested the parents become familiar with the techniques so they can encourage the skills and help them when needed. There also so suggestions in the back of the book for parents.
