Class Experience

Friendships at the preteen age can be the most amazing thing ever! But then the next day brings tears from a disagreement with a friend. This is a delicate age for kids as they are on a journey of self-discovery and getting to know what they like and don't like in their friendships. Each week we will discuss a friendship scenario, a tool that helps build healthy friendships, and why self-love is very important in attracting amazing friends. Students will engage in discussion, writing, drawing, and visualizing.

1st meeting:
Students will discuss Self-love and why it is important to nourish a friendship with yourself
Friendship scenario topic: your friend makes a new friend and seems more interested in the new friend than you.

2nd meeting: Students will create a gratitude tree and brainstorm and share how they can care for themselves each day and will list what they look for in a friend.
Friendship scenario topic: my friend has changed and I don't want to be around her anymore.

3rd meeting: Students will learn how to use mirror talk as a way of nourishing self-love and will discuss how to be supportive in a friendship. Friendship scenario topic: My friend and I had an argument.

4th meeting: Students will learn to use positive affirmations to feed a positive friendship with themselves. Friendship scenario topic: I am having a hard time making friends.

5th Students will learn to use visualization as a way of inspiring positive change for themselves and their friendships. Friendship scenario topic: My friend talks negatively about other people.

6th Students will discuss core values they have for themselves and their friendships. They will write out boundaries they have for friendships such as, I will not be treated badly in a friendship. Friendship scenario topic: My friend is trying to influence me to do something I don't want to do.

7th Students will write out a friendship code to help inspire positive and healthy friendships. We will also discuss the signs of a toxic friendship. Friendship scenario: I feel like my friend is being dishonest.
