Class Experience

The purpose of this one-time class is to introduce upper elementary school students to social skills, the verbal & nonverbal interpersonal skills we all use in our interactions with other people. Using good social skills helps you learn to be friendly and make more friends!

Students will learn about some basic verbal social skills (using supportive comments, asking questions) and some basic nonverbal social skills (making eye contact, nodding).

I've been a certified teacher for 30 years (my Washington State teaching certificate includes endorsements for special education from pre-school through high school) and in that time have taught children from elementary school through high school. I've taught self-contained 5th & 6th-grade classes and was the founder of a progressive middle & high school, a place where I taught for nearly 25 years. I have decades of experience helping students build social and emotional skills in school settings and consider it to be one of my strongest gifts.
