Hello!

My name is Omar Ruiz. I was born and raised in Houston, TX. I am full blooded Cuban, (Thus my extensive knowledge in minimalism and survival) 

For the past 2 years I have been travelling back and forth to Costa Rica, where I am learning an array of survival skills, such as how to handle dangerous animals, how to survive in the rainforest, and also researching the affects of earthquakes and tsunamis. I have been an Outschool teacher for about 5 years, and have taught over 4,000 students. I really love teaching! I could literally teach student all day long and not get bored. Especially, students that are gifted and talented, and/or on the autism spectrum. As someone that is also on the spectrum, I can relate to students that also have ASD. I have been told by dozens of parents how surprised they are that their students can actually pay attention of 55 minutes in my classes. The ASD community to me is a beautiful community, while others see it as a disability, I see it as a gift. 

What I enjoy teaching the most about is all things survival. I have been an outdoorsman, and true lover of nature since I could walk. With my experience in emergency services, the military, and the many adventures I have gone on, I am confidently capable of teaching your student a multitude of survival skills. 

Another passion of mine, entrepreneurship, is something that I was born loving. Since I was literally 5 years old I have had several very successful small businesses, and have tons of experience with starting and running a small business.
One of my "side hustles" was helping individuals create their own small businesses, to date, I have helped roughly 20-25 people, start very successful small businesses all over the United States. To this day most of those individuals I helped are making 6 figure a year salaries. 

In my personal life I enjoy camping, traveling, hiking, backpacking and hanging out with my 16 year old son, and and little dog Bruce. A few other passions of mine are 4Wheeling, off-roading, fishing, volunteering, helping the less fortunate, drumming, and listening to self improvement audiobooks; especially about criminology and forensics. 

I encourage you too check out my classes. I am 100% confident that your student will learn something that they will one day need. Not only that, compared to many teachers on Outschool I keep my classes under 10 students. I want to ensure all students feel welcome, and involved. From personal experience an online class with more than 10 students can create an environment where students feel left out, and not heard. I do NOT want this sort of environment. I want all my students to participate and feel as if they have a voice.

Firefighter/Emergency Medical Responder - 10 Years
U.S. Coast Guard (Law Enforcement/Search and Rescue/Logistics) - 4.5 Years
United Healthcare (Supervisor of Clinical Intake) - 2 Years
Entrepreneur/Self employed - since 2013 
Outschool (Life Skills Teacher) - since 2020


Education:
AA - Business
BA - Consumer and Family Financial Services (basically a personal finance degree)
BA - Entrepreneurship (it's technically a minor, but I have more than enough credits for it to be a major, but the college I went to didn't let me get a major in it as I was already on a track to get the minor. So I unofficially consider it a full degree. 
BA - Applied Behavioral Sciences (currently pursuing) 
Once I get done with my BA in ABS, I plan on obtaining an MS in forensics, addiction rehabilitation, or emergency management.
