*****IMPORTANT TO KNOW***** BEST FOR: - Students who have completed the A0 course or equivalent (pre-requisites below) - Advanced beginners (or those in need of a refresher) who are serious about becoming fluent in the language. This academic-style curriculum is geared toward students who hope to take the DELF certification exam in the future. CEFR Level A1 SPEED: Moderate to Fast EXPECTATIONS: Students are expected to keep their camera on and should come prepared to take notes as well as participate both in writing and verbally. Students should be able to confidently read, write and count in English. Students will be expected to complete homework assignments twice weekly and will be assessed via Kahoot (un-timed) at various points throughout the course. PREREQUISITES: Student must be proficient with the following topics prior to enrollment: - Basic introductions and greetings - Numbers, colors, shapes - Alphabet, accents, articles, pronouns, basic grammar - Conjugation of AVOIR, ΓTRE and Regular ER verbs in present tense - Expressions with AVOIR and ΓTRE - Formulating negative phrases - Asking questions (open and closed) - Identifying body parts in French and providing a self-description - Describing family members and family dynamic - Ask and tell the date - Describe items around the home FORMAT: - Each class students will be given the opportunity to work on 4 areas: Oral production (speaking), Oral comprehension (understanding what is being said in French), Written production (writing) and Written comprehension (reading). - Students will also be exposed to French music and culture via YouTube videos that will be played in class and assigned for homework. - This is NOT a full immersion course. CLASS BEHAVIOR & ADMINISTRATIVE INFO: Please make note of the following: 1) VIDEO REQUIRED. Video is required at the beginning of every class for check in. This is a requirement by Outschool. Upon verification, students may turn off their cameras. 2) RESPECT Please have your learner(s) familiarize themselves with the Outschool features such as mute and raising their hand. Students are expected to be respectful to all during class. 3) NO SHARING Please enroll all siblings for their own spot in the class, as appropriate. Also, per Outschool policy, adults are also not allowed on-camera. Students should be able to navigate the class independently. 4) MINIMUM ENROLLMENT Classes with less than 2 students will be either canceled and refunded or rescheduled. 5) MAKE UP SESSIONS Make up sessions are not available. I encourage students to review the video for whichever class they missed. 6) ABSENCES & REFUNDS Please refer to the Outschool policy regarding refunds. Parental Guidance
We will be using Kahoot and Quizlet apps in class and students may be assigned French YouTube videos to watch outside of class time. Students may also be assigned time on a free language app such as DuoLingo for practice.
Supply List
Students should always attend class with: - Their French notebook or binder - Paper - A writing utensil (pencil or pen) - It is helpful to have a printed copy of the previous weekβs presentation as well. Optional: In addition to homework, it is helpful for students to have an online language application they can use to reinforce skills. It would be helpful for students to have one or more of these: - DuoLingo - Babbel - Drops - OkyDoky - MosaLingua
