In this 45-minute creative writing workshop, students will describe a magical winter scene inspired by the first snowfall. They will learn to focus on physical and atmospheric details, use sensory vocabulary (with a focus on touch), and craft an engaging, immersive description. Additionally, students will receive personalized feedback on their work within the week following the workshop. What will be taught? Writing a detailed description of a place, focusing on physical and atmospheric elements. Using sensory vocabulary, especially related to touch, to enrich descriptions. Capturing weather and mood through descriptive language. What topics will you cover? Exploring sensory details (e.g., touch, sight, and sound) for vivid descriptions. Vocabulary building with a focus on tactile and atmospheric language. Techniques for crafting an engaging and immersive winter scene. How is your class structured? 1. Warm-Up & Introduction (5 minutes) Begin with a brief reading of the mise en situation d'écriture to set the mood and inspire creativity. Quick brainstorming activity: Imagine the first snowfall—what does it look and feel like? 2. Mini-Lesson on Sensory Details (10 minutes) Present the liste de mots et d’expressions liés au sens du toucher and discuss how to use them effectively in writing. Share an example of a winter description from the exemple de texte inspirant to illustrate how sensory language creates vivid imagery. 3. Guided Writing Activity (20 minutes) Students work on their description using the feuille de rédaction for step-by-step guidance. Encourage them to incorporate tactile and atmospheric vocabulary from the provided list. Check in with each student individually to provide personalized support or suggestions. 4. Sharing & Reflection (10 minutes) Invite students to share one or two sentences from their writing. Offer positive and constructive feedback, highlighting strong sensory language or creative ideas. 5. Post-Class Feedback Students can submit their completed descriptions for detailed, personalized feedback. Feedback will focus on their use of sensory vocabulary, tactile descriptions, and overall creativity, provided within one week. How will you teach? I use a blend of direct instruction, interactive discussion, and guided practice. The class is hands-on, with students actively writing during the session and using provided materials to support their learning. What's your teaching style? I create a supportive and encouraging environment where students feel confident exploring their creativity. My structured approach provides clear guidance while allowing space for personal expression. How much will learners interact with you? During the workshop: Discussions during brainstorming and the mini-lesson, one-on-one guidance during the writing phase, and group sharing in the reflection segment. After the workshop: Detailed, personalized feedback to help learners refine their writing skills and build confidence.
