1 hour per week. Some written or conversation practice work will be assigned after each class. Students will be asked to submit short videos of a conversation each week. I will check work for correctness and comment if it is at or above the level students are working towards. I will suggests how they can improve their work to reach the level they are working towards.Assessment
Students taking this class will be working towards GCSE/iGCSE French or the French 1 or French 2 accreditation in their school. I will advise if they are working at, above or below the required level and suggest what they can do to reach the level they are aiming for.Grading
I will give a pass or requires improvement comment for each piece of work. However, the students doing the GCSE or iGCSE exams will sit external examinations and US/Canadian students who attend school will be graded by their own school teachers. I have taught French 1 and French 2 for a US online school and have assessed the students at the end of the year, so I know the required standard to achieve French 1 and French 2 passes.Class Experience
US Grade 9 - 12
Intermediate Level
This course is designed to work together with any of my French 2 classes. We will practise conversations in French in this class. Each student will speak multiple times during the class. There will also be listening exercises, both listening to people in class and recorded conversations. Students will ask and answer questions. We will also play games during some classes. Week 1. 1st class: Greetings. Talking about myself, my family and friends. Understanding what other people are saying about themselves. Understanding when to use ‘Tu’ and when to use ‘Vous’. The French alphabet and how to spell out your name. 2nd class: My interests and role models. What interests do you have? Who are your role models? What things to you admire in your role model? Week 2. 1st class: Basic conversation vocabulary for buying anything anywhere. We will practise conversations buying food and drinks in cafés, restaurants etc. You can express your likes and dislikes and use 'je voudrais...' We will also revise numbers and I will check your understanding of prices. 2nd class: Revise clothing vocabulary and colours. Practise conversations asking for clothes in shops, including prices. Comments about clothes – too big/small/expensive. What we wear during different seasons. Week 3. 1st class: Everyday life at home. Describing your house in French and understanding French students describing their homes. Describe your dream house. Lesson 2. Social media and technology. Talk about how you use social media and technology. Listen to French students talking about their experiences. Week 4. Lesson 1. Cultural life. Music, cinema and reading. Talk about cultural activities that you enjoy and your favourite music, films and books. Lesson 2. Sport. You will talk about which sports you do and which sports you like watching. What sports do French students like? Week 5. Lesson 1. Celebrations and festivals. What festivals do you and your family celebrate? What festivals etc are important in France? How do you celebrate your birthday? How do French students celebrate theirs? Lesson 2. Holidays and tourism. What countries have you visited? Can you understand French students talking about their holidays? Week 6. Lesson 1. Travel. Can you say how you travel when you go places? Can you understand French students talking about how they travel? We will do role plays where you ask for bus/train tickets. Lesson 2. Talking about your hometown. What do you like about it? What additional facilities would you like to see there? Understanding French people talking about their town. Asking the way and understanding directions. Week 7. Lesson 1. Talking about your school. What subjects do you like/dislike? Understanding French students talking about their school and the subjects they like. Lesson 2. More about school subjects and extracurricular activities. Talk about things you like and don't like. Understanding what French students think of their school.. Week 8. Lesson 1. Ambitions. What would you like to do after school? What job would you like to do? Understanding what French students want to do after school. Lesson 2. Work. Have you got a part-time job? Would you like to have a part-time job- if so, what would you do? Role play of a job interview. Understanding what French students say about their part-time job. Week 9. Lesson 1. Environmental issues. How can we protect our environment? What do you and your family do to help? Understanding French students talking about this issue. Lesson 2. Global issues and events. Unemployment. Fair trade. Poverty. Understand French students talking about these things. I may be able to run the whole 9 weeks again after Easter, for US and Canadian students. Please ask. In UK French spoken exams will take place in early April, so I need to have covered all the topics by then.
Learning Goals
Students will increase their confidence in speaking French for exams/assessements.
The students will become more confident about tackling the Speaking and Listening exams for GCSE/iGCSE and French 1 and 2 assessments.

I have experience of teaching students with a variety of unique learning needs. Please inform me of needs on enrolment, so that I can supply worksheets with extra scaffolding and allow extra processing time if needed.
Pre-Requisites
These classes are designed for learners aiming to take GCSE/iGCSE summer 2025 and students aiming for French 1 or 2 accreditation this summer.
Supply List
A notebook or other means of recording will also be useful. I will provide vocabulary notes and worksheets for assignments for each class.
