US Grade 8 - 10
Beginner - Intermediate Level
This ongoing class is aimed at students in Secondary school in Britain or Middle/High School in USA/Canada. Each lesson is self-contained, so learners can come to all the classes or those practising the topics they need help with. I taught Secondary School French for a number of years and welcomed learners with any levels of French to my class in Year 7. I also taught French at Primary School and made sure my learners were well prepared for Secondary school. I have taught French 1 and French 2 accredited French classes for a US online school for 2 years with Outschool and am currently teaching a French 1/GCSE class on Outschool. This class will focus on Speaking and Listening skills. There will be some opportunities to record answers in written form on the worksheets I will provide. I also teach a class on the basics of grammar and writing skills, which will compliment this class. When learners are ready, I will invite them to take an assessment class for the French 1 or French 2 accreditation. GCSE or iGCSE grades are awarded by the examination boards only, so parents will have to find an examination centre and arrange for their learner to be entered for the exam. Week of 2nd September: La Rentrée. French School students go back to school this week. What is the return to school like in France? Students will compare accounts of their school holiday activities, so we will, too. Week of 9th September: More about the subjects French students study. Mini lessons in French. Week of 16th September: Sports and leisure activities. What sports do you play? What sports do you like watching? Which sports did you enjoy watching in the Olympic Games and Paralympics? I will add more classes as we go on.
Learning Goals
Students will practise speaking in French on various topics related to the French 1 accreditation in US and French GCSE in UK. The topics include real life situations that will be helpful when visiting a country where French is an official language and when speaking to native French speakers. They will also practise listening skills.
Students will be able to speak French well enough to be understood by a sympathetic native French speaker and will understand most of what a sympathetic native French speaker is saying by the time they reach French 1/GCSE standard.
