Class Experience

Let's play Minecraft! This class works best on PC (Windows 10 Bedrock) or Pocket Edition. Consoles like, Xbox and Switch, do not work as well. Before joining the class make sure you have the "Add a Server" button on the server tab on Minecraft. This class is on a private server. It will be available 24/7. Students enrolled in this class will be able to meet up with friends in the classroom. There are no live meetings scheduled for this class. If there is interest, students can participate in optional live meetings that we can schedule in the classroom.

This class can be repeated and will repeat every four weeks.

Week 1
Get to know Free World. Get started on the server and start exploring.
Scavenger Hunt Challenge: Take a picture or screenshot of the most interesting mob you can find this week. It can be doing something strange, in a strange place, or just a rare mob. The class will vote on the best picture.
Trivia Submission: Submit trivia questions and answers to Ms. Brenda via private message.

Week 2
Show us your house. Are you building a house? Show us pictures or videos in the classroom.
Scavenger Hunt Challenge: Take a picture of the most interesting build you see this week. It can be part of the seed or something built by another builder. The class will vote on the best picture.

Week 3
Show us your mine. Did you find an awesome place to find gold, redstone, diamonds, or emeralds? Show it off.
Scavenger Hunt Challenge: Take a picture of the most rare ore you find this week. The class will vote on the best picture.
Trivia Challenge: Try the trivia submitted by your classmates. We will use Kahoot for this challenge.

Week 4
Share your work. Have you been farming? Making armor? Cooking? Show off your hard work.
Scavenger Hunt Challenge: Find another builder's build and WITHOUT disturbing it, take a picture of the build you think is the coolest or most interesting. The build with the most votes wins.

Learning Goals

This class is primarily a social group for students to build together and share their work in the game. There will also be opportunities to share ideas and help each other learn.

Each student must agree to the rules and students caught breaking the rules may be asked to leave the class. If you are uncomfortable with your students chatting with other students in an unsupervised environment, you should disable chat on your child's Minecraft account. The Rules: 1. Be Kind. (Don't do or say anything to anyone else that you wouldn't want them to do or say to you.) 2. Don't break it if you didn't build it. 3. Don't build in other people's areas. 4. Don't take stuff from other people's chests or builds. 5. BE KIND!

Teacher expertise and credentials
Hi! I'm Brenda and I'm a homeschool mom, an author, a swim instructor, and a really big nerd. I love stories. I like books, movies, and games. I love to learn about EVERYTHING! Some of my favorite things to learn about are math, dinosaurs, the Ancient Greeks, explosions, and world religions. I wish real life was a musical and I may spontaneously break into song.

My degree is in Theatre Arts with a minor in Psychology.

I believe everyone should be treated with kindness and respect. I also believe that we learn best when we are excited about what we are learning.

My favorite books are Harry Potter and Percy Jackson, my favorite movies are Independence Day and Fiddler on the Roof, and my favorite TV shows are MASH, Phineas and Ferb, and Firefly.
