US Grade 8 - 11
In this 9-week club, we will be writing more than you could imagine! If you have ever wanted to write a book, short story, or poetry, this is the place for you. Come with an idea or with an open mind. No matter how experienced you are with writing, you will benefit from this class. We will all be learning from each other as we receive peer feedback and collaborate. We will be using a combination of Nearpod, Google Drive, and 4thewords.com to create a robust portfolio of your work. A word from 4thewords: "Exceed your writing goals as you feel the power of defeating monsters with your word count! Earn rewards, level up your hero, and explore our world built by writers for writers. Write about your novel, blog, homework, or cat; in our world, as long as you’re writing, you’re winning!" Each class will start with a mini-lesson, followed by hands-on practice using prompts or students' ideas. Week 1: Intro to the writing process Week 2: Conquering writer's block Week 3: Prewriting and brainstorming Week 4: Drafting and structure Week 5: Editing and revising Week 6: Round Robin Writing Week 7: Writer's Workshop Week 8: Trying a new genre Week 9: How to get published This class is responsive to students' needs, and the plan may adapt to meet those needs. We will be learning and growing together. While the initial course will take place over nine weeks, students can reenroll as many times as they want! Follow me on Outschool for more classes!
