In this ongoing course, learners will be taught the ins and outs of fractions. My focus is to take the burden off the parents, you don't need the stress, let me handle it! Teaching this subject for the past 5 years, I have come across many students who are completely confused about the parts of a fraction, how to compute with them and WHY do we need to know these?! Unfortunately many people do not realize that fractions are a huge part of life! We use them in almost everything we do and we never even think about it. I say unfortunately because only certain concepts are given priority with full explanations. This has to change. In my course, your learner will know what to do with the fractions, and will know how to be able to EXPLAIN their answer. They will know WHY the denominators must change in order to solve a problem. If time permits, I would love to be able to look over their homework from school to be able to help them understand things clearly. Week One (9/1): Fraction vocabulary/Parts of a fraction/Comparing Fractions Week Two (9/7): Adding Fractions/Adding mixed number fractions Week Three (9/14): Subtracting Fractions/Subtracting mixed number fractions Week Four (9/21): Multiplying/Dividing Fractions 5 minutes- Get to know the students, where they are from, and share any struggles they may have with the concepts. 15-35 minutes- Learners will follow along as the teacher breaks down the steps of fractions and how to solve through various operations. We always just do, but never question why we do it the way we do. In this time frame, we will figure it all out. Learners will practice the methods step by step with direct feedback from the teacher. 10 minutes- Class wrap up/Share any other struggles learners may have/If time permits, look over any work they have from school.
Learning Goals
Students will improve their understanding of fractions through multiple concepts such as adding/subtracting(with like and unlike denominators), multiplying/dividing, converting improper to mixed and vice versa. We will also learn about how fractions relate to decimals.

I teach math and science as core learning classes. I feel that I give great strategies, mostly through crafted story telling. This not only allows students to relate to the material but also gives us a pretty good laugh! And if we know anything, we always remember what makes us laugh! I am certified in Connecticut K-6 and Florida K-6. I achieved my Masters Degree at the best school for teachers in CT, Southern CT State University.
I was never a fan of education or the public school system for as long as I can remember. They always say the right things but never seem to really want children to be their own thinkers. Too many times the only reasons children know anything is due to them being told what to do and what to think. I value children's minds and what they are truly capable of. Children can literally understand anything as long as you let them discover it. The moment you shut them down is the moment their creativity and imagination are halted. My mission is to help develop children's minds and allow them to think and solve problems in anyway they see fit. True education is through creativity.
I would love to teach more about how the brain works for children to lower stress. Mindfulness is a topic I have been following for at least 6 years now. I have noticed a trend in the public school system with administration teams being "corporate" mindfulness. They really only scratch the surface of how to effectively utilize the brain to their advantage and as long as they are mentioning those keywords they think they are up to date. The truth is they don't want to really touch on the subject because they don't understand what it truly is. I like to explore deeper in the understandings and what we can accomplish when we really use mindfulness.
