US Grade 9 - 12
For this class students need to know addition, subtraction, multiplication and division. This course is for high schoolers who need a review of fractions. This course covers everything concerning fractions. The subtopics are as follows: What is a fraction? What is a numerator and a denominator? What is an equivalent fraction? Identifying a fraction in a number line. How to simplify fractions and compare them. How to add and subtract fractions and mixed numbers. How to convert mixed numbers into improper fractions and how to multiply and divide fractions. I will teach using Power Point slides, sending an optional worksheet that will be solved during class to help them follow along. I might use also the Zoom Whiteboard and annotation tools. This multi-day course has 5 meetings, and we will meet from Monday to Friday. Below is the itinerary for each meeting. Meeting 1 We will go over 'What is a fraction, numerator, denominator and what is an equivalent fraction.' In this lesson students will be able to understand how to write a fraction in a number line. They will also learn how to identify an equivalent fraction using multiplication and division. Meeting 2 Students will learn how to write fractions in the simplest form, what is a mixed number and improper fraction and how to convert a mixed number to an improper fraction. We will solve together the optional worksheet I will send for this meeting, and I will let them solve problems on their own to check their comprehension. Meeting 3 'How to add and subtract fractions with like denominators and how to add and subtract fractions with unlike denominators.' They will learn how to find a common denominator. Meeting 4 Students will improve their understanding of fractions and they will learn how to multiply fractions and mixed numbers. Meeting 5 Students will learn how to divide fractions.
