Hello, future mathematicians and curious minds! My name is Ms. Hudson, and I'm thrilled to invite you to embark on an exciting mathematical adventure with me at Quantum Montessori's Virtual School. Our journey, "Discover the World of Fractions," is a 4-week course designed specifically for learners in 3rd through 5th grade who are eager to explore the fascinating world of fractions and their operations. In this course, we'll dive deep into understanding fractions, not just as numbers, but as essential parts of our daily lives. We'll use models to visualize fractions, explore them through literature to connect with concepts in a meaningful way, and apply them to real-world scenarios to see the relevance of what we're learning. Every four weeks, the same content will be repeated. Here is a glimpse of our class outline and daily schedule: 🧮 Week 1: Figuring Out Fractions – “FUN”damentals! Scope: I this week will focus on foundational fraction concepts including pictorial representations, simplifying fractions, and comparing and ordering fractions. Students will engage in interactive activities to gain an understanding of these fundamental concepts. 🧮 Week 2: Figuring Out Fractions – Adding & Subtracting Scope: In this week will focus on concepts that support addition and subtraction of fractions. Students will explore fractions on a number line, common denominators, least common multiple (LCM) greatest common factor (GCF), adding, subtracting, and borrowing fractions. 🧮 Week 3: Figuring Out Fractions – Multiplying & Dividing Scope: In this week students will uncover the secrets of improper fractions, mixed numbers and the art of multiplying and dividing fractions using the power of storytelling. Students will unleash their imaginations as we weave fraction multiplication and division concepts into entertaining tales, creating a fusion of literature and mathematics! 🧮 Week 4: Figuring Out Fractions – Wacky Review Games Scope: In this week, students will participate in a thrilling math adventure! Students will conquer fractions through an array of engaging games such as Fraction Jeopardy, Tic-Tac-Toe and Interactive Crossword Puzzles. This week will be a math extravaganza where fun meets fraction concept review! 📕 Daily Check In: We'll start each session by touching base, ensuring we're all ready and set for the day's adventure. 📕 Instruction/Mini Lesson: I'll introduce the day's fraction concept, breaking it down into digestible parts. 📕 Guided Practice: Together, we'll walk through examples, applying what we've learned in a supportive setting. Interactive Activities/Games: Get ready for fun and engaging activities that reinforce our lessons in an enjoyable way. 📕 Real World Application: We'll connect our fraction knowledge to real-life situations, enhancing our understanding and appreciation of math. 📕 Independent Practice: You'll have the opportunity to practice on your own, applying the day's lessons to ensure mastery of the concepts. 📕 Wrap Up: We'll conclude each class by reflecting on what we've learned and previewing what's next. My priority is to create a caring and nurturing environment where you feel supported and encouraged to explore and learn. I believe in the power of empathy combined with structured practice to help you master key concepts in fractions. Through a blend of lecture, interactive activities, videos, literature, and community-building discussions, our class offers a dynamic learning environment that promotes collaboration and engagement. You'll not only interact with me but also with your peers, fostering a collaborative and engaging learning experience. Together, we'll learn from each other and actively participate in our math journey, making new discoveries and friendships along the way. I can't wait to meet you all and start this fraction-filled adventure. Are you ready to explore the world of fractions with Ms. Hudson? Join me at Quantum Montessori's Virtual School, and let's make math an exciting part of our daily lives!
