Welcome to "Fraction Food Fun" 3-Day Class! Here I have taken my one-time class that I offer and made it into a longer course. This is a great, multiday class, to introduce your learner to the concept of fractions. Students will discover that fractions can be simple and fun. Students will learn, "What is a fraction?" They will learn what a fraction looks like by learning more about the numerator and denominator. What each of these represent. They will learn how to form basic fractions by breaking 1 whole object into multiple parts (1/2, 1/3, 3/4, 2/6, etc.) When students learn fractions based on food and gain the simple understanding of "What is a fraction" then as fractions get more difficult they will feel less intimidated and fractions will be much easier. During this class, learners will practice writing fractions while forming a better understanding between the numerator and denominator. Learners will be able to shade the parts of a shape to represent a fraction. They will also be able to write the fraction by looking at the shaded areas of a shape. We will examine fractions through pizza, apples, oranges, waffles and more. This is a beginner level class with no prior knowledge of fractions needed. A small dry erase board will be very beneficial for your learner to use during class. Please have your learner bring a pencil and paper to each class. They will practice writing fractions throughout class. I will send worksheets through the Outschool classroom for each learner to print and bring to class each day. Day 1: Introduction to Fractions: What is a fraction, what does a fraction look like, what is the numerator and denominator. Day 2: Identifying a fraction by looking at pizza, lemons, and oranges. I will use a slide show for students to look at pictures and start identify what fraction they see. For example, "How many total pieces of pizza do you see? How many pieces were eaten? What fraction of pizza eaten?" Day 3: Learners will continue to practice identifying fractions. Students will learn to shade in the given fraction. We will perform some simple addition and subtraction with fractions.
