US Grade 4
This semester long math class is ideal for 8 through 11-year-old children, depending on their abilities and previous knowledge. The children will be introduced to a topic during the class session and then have follow-up activities to do during the week. While the class meets three times per week, families should be prepared to spend time daily, practicing math. Each webinar will take children systematically through a topic, solving problems and analyzing steps on the shared whiteboard. Students should be comfortable both with writing on the screen (this does not function on Chromebooks) as well as entering answers into the chat box. Students and parents should be willing to engage in a variety of multi-sensory activities to support learning math concepts, in addition to class time. Each week will include several pages of home-time learning, outside of class session time. The class will utilize Singapore Math, a world renowned math program. Families are responsible for purchasing the required materials as students will have regular assignments, in addition to active, sensory-immersion activities that are developmentally appropriate for 9 - 11 year old children. If you are unfamiliar with Singapore Math, you can read a review of it by Cathy Duffy here: https://cathyduffyreviews.com/homeschool-reviews-core-curricula/math/grades-k-6/singapore-math-primary-mathematics Students will cover the following topics: Topics: Decimals: - Tenths - Hundredths - Thousandths - Rounding Off The Four Operations of Decimals - Addition and Subtraction - Multiplication - Division Measurement - Multiplication - Division Symmetry - Symmetric Figures Solid Figures - Identifying Solid Figures Volume - Cubic Units - Volume of a Cuboid The topics are typically covered in the order they are presented in the textbook, although there are occasions where we deviate slightly.
