Class Experience

US Grade 4
This class is meant to be a private tutoring class for 4th grade students who would like some extra support with the concepts that they are learning in school. The student will work on their school work with me to make sure they have a solid grasp of the topic. This can be the homework that is sent home or if they just have a topic they need help with. As needed, this may also include reviewing past topics that they might have gaps in that may be causing them to struggle with the current topic.

Since this is a one-on-one class, I will be able to assess the needs of your child and work with them at their pace. Sometimes, in order to learn a concept, we must go back and make sure other number concepts are solid that were covered in past grades. This is difficult for classroom teachers to do due to limited time and having many students with many different needs. In this private class, we will use digital tools and manipulatives, multiple strategies (not just the standard way), and scaffolded work to help your child feel confident in their math skills.

Some possible topics that might needs extra support in fourth grade are:
-multiplication strategies for multi-digit numbers (ex: 24 x 32)
-working with fractions in various ways (equivalent fractions, adding and subtracting, converting from mixed fractions to improper, etc.)
-long division
-angle and line types

As a teacher, I don't just want kids to be able to blindly follow steps, but to really UNDERSTAND the way that numbers work and what the steps that they are taught to follow really mean.

Learning Goals

Students will improve their math skills to be able to work on their school work with confidence.
