Students will master age appropriate concepts in the five main math content areas: numbers, geometry, data analysis, measurement, and algebra. Students who are already taking math through their public, private, or charter school can enroll for additional support and practice. Homeschooled students can enroll for a complete math curriculum.

Description

Class Experience

Learners will work together with the teacher and their peers to solve a handful of math problems covering a monthly theme of age-appropriate number concepts which will deepen understanding of mathematics. Students will discuss solution strategies, and share their learning with their peers and the teacher. This is a low key, fun, and relaxing way to build math fluency, sharpen quantitative skills, and build math confidence.

Numbers 
four digit addition with and without regrouping
three digit subtraction with and without regrouping
multiply 2 digit numbers
division with remainders
multiply and divide with multiples of 10

Geometry & Data Relationships
calculate perimeter
read and analyze a pictograph

Measurement
identify appropriate measurement units
solve problems using elapsed time and describe time as fractions of an hour
convert centimeters to meters / milliliters to liters using fractions and decimals
estimation strategies

Algebra
recognize and continue patterns
beginning algebra: missing factors, divisors, and dividends
use parenthesis in equations
fractions

Additional problems will be given for practice, but there is no required homework.

A handout will be provided each week on Sundays. Please print this, and bring a pencil to class. You may also want to have an additional device to participate in our Nearpod Lesson. Additional materials may be provided on a week to week basis.

In addition to the Outschool classroom, this class uses:NearPod

Students will be assessed by the teacher through observation. Feedback will be written and sent to parents after class concludes which will include achieved goals and suggested next steps.
