In this one time course, students will learn to play the four most common chords in popular music on guitar. By the end of the lesson, students will unlock a new catalog of songs to play and have resources to learn any song they choose.
Class experience
This class covers the basics of guitar chords for beginner players. We will review the structure of the guitar and basic music theory including string names, major/minor chords, and how to read chord charts. Then, we will learn the four most commonly used chords in popular music, and discuss why these chords are so frequent, how they are used, and how to apply them to any song a musician wants to learn. Students will be able to play four basic guitar chords and be introduced to resources to help them discover new chords and learn any song of their choosing.
Students will need a guitar, either acoustic or electric, with all six strings intact.
Learners will not need to use any apps or websites beyond the standard Outschool tools.
