Intermediate Level
In this six-week online honors biology course, students will explore the fundamental concepts of life science, moving from the microscopic world of cells to the complexity of ecosystems. Designed for high school students seeking a deeper understanding of biology, the course includes weekly live lectures, guided virtual labs, interactive activities, and structured review homework to reinforce key concepts. Topics covered include cell structure and function, cell processes, genetics and heredity, evolution, classification of life, and ecological relationships. Each week is structured around a core theme, beginning with an engaging lecture that incorporates slides, video clips, and real-world examples. Students will participate in virtual labs and collaborative activities, followed by review assignments to apply their knowledge. The teaching style is dynamic and student-centered, encouraging active participation through live discussions, breakout room collaboration, and interactive quizzes and games. Learners will interact with the instructor during live sessions, receive feedback on assignments, and have opportunities for Q&A throughout the course.
Learning Goals
Understand and explain key biological concepts including cell structure and function, genetics, evolution, classification, and ecological systems.
Apply scientific reasoning and inquiry skills through virtual labs, data analysis, and problem-solving activities related to real-world biological scenarios.

Teacher expertise and credentials
Wisconsin Teaching Certificate in Science
I have over 20 years of classroom teaching experience, with a strong focus on life sciences. Throughout my career, I’ve taught all levels of biology—from introductory high school courses to more advanced honors and AP classes, as well as courses at the technical college and college level. My teaching approach blends clear, structured instruction with a variety of strategies to keep students actively engaged, including interactive lectures, virtual labs, hands-on activities, and real-world applications. I’m passionate about helping students develop a deep understanding of biological concepts and critical thinking skills, and I enjoy creating a learning environment that is both supportive and challenging. My extensive experience working with teens in both traditional and online settings has given me the tools to connect with diverse learners and help them succeed.
