Foundations of Acting: Teen Class

In this 4 week class, students will be introduced to essential techniques and skills actors need to know and use practical application to discover the joy of bringing a scene to life.

4 live meetings
4 in-class hours
Homework
1-2 hours per week. Short scenes/monologues will be sent to participants to memorize.
Assessment
Individual feedback will be given upon performance with the opportunity to adjust and make changes.

Class Experience

In this 4 week -  4 session class, aspiring actors with little to no experience will discover essential foundations to learn, grow, and understand the art of acting.
We will learn in a positive, non judgemental, and supportive environment so each student can bloom, and discover the joy within them that their unique self expression brings. 

Week One:
Introductions: We'll first get to know one another by adding a fun spin called the “ABC Name Game”
Have a round table discussion of what acting is, why we are interested in it, and why we want to learn more about it, as well as what are some ways you can expand your knowledge of acting at home.
Discussion on The Actor's Instrument and the importance of warming up, and looking after ourselves.
Group Warm Up Activities for the body, voice, and mind including Tongue Twisters for Articulation.
Open forum to ask questions and discussion of preparing our scenes for week 2.

Week Two:
Begin with an actor's warm up exercise.
Look at our week 2 scene together and discuss how to bring it to life with the acronym: C.P.R.
A discussion on script analysis and the opportunity to take turns performing.  
Open forum to ask questions and discussion of preparing our scenes for week 3.

Week Three:
Begin with an actor's warm up exercise.
Conversation about auditioning for film and television.
What is self taping and slating.
The opportunity to slate for everyone and mock audition with our week 3 two line scene.
Open forum to ask questions and discussion of preparing our monologues for week 4.

Week Four:
Begin with an actor's warm up exercise.
Review our actor's terminology we've been learning in weeks 1-3.
Take turns performing our monologues for one another.
Receive positive and encouraging feedback, as well as any possible adjustments including discovering operative words and acting beats within the text and working on character development.
Time permitting go through monologue again with adjustments.

Learning Goals

Students will learn foundational skills for being an actor, which can support them in pursuing their artistic goals. This is a great course to begin the journey of mastering your craft.

Parental Guidance
No curse words in materials will be provided. All scenes and monologues will be family friendly.
Supply List
A hand out of a short scene and a few monologues to choose from will be provided.

External Resources
Learners will not need to use any apps or websites beyond the standard Outschool tools.
