In this month-long class, we will work on building foundational skills in Language Arts and Math. This class will be held for one hour, twice a week. We will focus on core concepts from each subject that are essential. By learning and reinforcing these skills the learner will build their confidence in the subjects of Language Arts and Math. This is a great opportunity to strengthen skills in a low-pressure setting. This is also a less intimidating way to start the school year off by refreshing and reenforcing concepts after winter break. ELA- Language Arts will cover reinforcement lessons to include vocabulary, writing tools for complete sentences and paragraphs, parts of speech, punctuation, and reading. There will be weekly writing prompts and vocabulary provided. Math - We will cover foundational skills of place values, decimals, rounding measurements, fractions and mixed numbers. Teacher expertise and credentials
My name is Maria, and I am a homeschooling mom. I have been teaching for 13 years with 9 years of classroom experience in the private school setting and 4 years working in homeschool co-ops and online educational platforms with elementary through middle school. I have a BS in Interdisciplinary Studies with concentrations in Business Administration and Communication Arts. My minor is in Conflict Analysis and Dispute Resolution.
In my online classroom, I strive to create a flexible environment where the students are part of the learning process. There is a direct focus on fostering meaningful conversations to guide learning. I believe that each learner has a different learning style that should be encouraged. Relationship building is key in engaging students and my goal is to connect with each student in a way that is meaningful to them.
Outside of the classroom, I am a homeschooling mom to two active children. For the last 8 years, I have been a scout leader for both Cub Scouts and Girl Scouts. I was a team manager for Destination Imagination for 5 years. I support my children in their activities, which include, performing arts, pageants, soccer, archery, and hockey. We also enjoy musical theatre and traveling. We are the proud owners of a yellow lab puppy, Suzy.
