Class Experience

US Grade 1 - 2
Beginner Level
This ongoing class takes foundational ELA concepts and makes them visual for learners. Each week we will review an ELA concept (phonics, writing, parts of speech, types of sentences, spelling rules, punctuation, homophones, prefixes/suffixes, sentence structure, etc.) and create a visual for our interactive grammar notebook.

This class requires some prep work. Learners will need a composition notebook, scissors, glue, colored pencils/pens, and access to a printer. A weekly pdf will be provided for learners to cut and have ready for class.

❓What prior skills are required for this class?
This class focuses on foundational skills. Learners must have at least a first grade reading level to participate in the games.

❓How is the class structured?
The class will start with introductions and an ice breaker activity. Next, I will introduce the topic of the day and we will complete the visual for the day. Learners will have the opportunity to complete tasks related to the topic. At the end of class, we will play a Blooket or Kahoot game to reinforce what we learned. Blooket or Kahoot accounts are not required to access the game.

❓How is this class different than the "English Grammar & ELA Workshop for 3rd, 4th & 5th Grades: Interactive Notebook" class?
This class focuses on skills geared to the 1st and 2nd grade standards of learning. The instruction focuses on one topic per class to ensure understanding of each concept. This class has a two year cycle of lessons. Learners are welcome to join at any time! Older learners are welcome to participate for a review or stronger foundation.

This is an ongoing class and each class stands alone, so learners are welcome to join at any time!

Weekly Schedule:
