In this 5 part course, students will learn about the creation of our US government from the Articles of Confederation to the US Constitution. This course is great for homeschoolers or those looking to learn more about US history/government.

Class Experience

US Grade 4 - 7
In this Self-Paced course, there is no live instruction. The learner will understand the factors that shaped the creation of the US government after the American Revolution, including the Articles of Confederation and the Great Compromise.  Instruction may be supplemented with additional videos clips, handouts, reading material, and/or games. Students will also receive access to the slides used in class.

The class will include multiple interactive activities (in the Outschool classroom), including but not limited to a 2-week Constitutional Congress Simulation, a Battle of the Plans "Would You Rather?"Articles of Confederation (AOC) Vote of Confidence, sorts on Jamboard, matching AOC cause/effect, and EdPuzzle; all of which will prompt students to share their knowledge for a better understanding of the topic. 

The course material will be posted at the start of each week (Monday):
1 - Post-American Revolution and the Articles of Confederation
2 - Weakness of the AOC & the Constitutional Convention (Part 1)
30- The Battle of the Plans & the Constitutional Convention (Part 2)
4 - The US Constitution, Preamble, Articles, Bill of Rights, and Amendments
5 - The 3 Branches of the Government, Level of Government, and a Review
Learning Goals
By the end of the course, students will be able to discuss facts, opportunities, obstacles, and relevant information pertaining to the creation of our US government. The class is interactive (in the Outschool classroom) so that it encourages learner participation and questions.

Lesson 1:

 This lesson reviews our first governing document as a new nation, the Articles of Confederation. 
Lesson 2:
Weakness of the Articles of Confederation
 This lesson outlines the weaknesses of the Articles of Confederation. 
Unit 2: Our Consitution
Lesson 3:
Battle of the Plans
 This lesson reviews the major plans discussused at the Constitutional Convention. 
Lesson 4:
The Parts of the Constitution
 This lesson outlines the 3 major parts of the Constitution: preamble, amendments, and the articles with a focus on the Bill of Rights.
