Class Experience

Students should be able to work in a group to solve scientific problems, be effective leaders as well as effective team members, and interact productively with a diverse group of peers.
Students will exhibit a basic understanding of criminal justice systems as they relate to forensic science.
Mrs. Collins is a current forensics teacher, with certification in science and gifted education.
In this FLEX course, students will be provided a new chapter pdf to read each week. Most chapters are 10-15 pages long. Then 2-3 assignments will be provided.
 1 file available upon enrollment
notecards colored pencils pen pencil ruler stamp pad or eyeshadow to use for fingerprinting lab red food coloring spiral notebook for note taking ziploc bag or shoebox to hold notecards popsicle sticks glue paper
In addition to the Outschool classroom, this class uses:
This course is a flex class, which means students move at their own pace taking test on different days or weeks. The instructor will provide a link for students to take chapter test, and the link will grade the test automatically. Students can take the test multiple times, until they are happy with the score. The instructor encourages students to write down their test scores in a spiral notebook or sheet designated by the family. The scores and the pacing on the Outschool wall should be checked by the parent a minimum of once a week. When the course is completed, Outschool will provide a transcript showing the course was completed. If you need the instructor to add a number grade or any other type of documentation, please let her know she will be happy to help.
No live meetings, and an estimated 1 - 2 hours per week outside of class.
This is geared to be a high school forensics course, so please note the nature of the class. Blood splatter, various causes of death and ballistics will be discussed. Students can skip chapters if the family decides.

I have a full session of forensics going at all times on a flex format. Students may join at anytime during the class time frame. For example, if the class session is August 21-December 18 then students can join at anytime during those dates. I have setup multiple sessions with dates but if your child is the only one in the session, I will email you and let you know, and then transfer your child to a current active session. I email parents on the following schedules: before class begins, when the child begins, 2 weeks after the child has started to check in, and again after 9 weeks. Please make sure you are checking the Outschool wall once a week to confirm your child is uploading assignments and to see the child's pacing. I also ask that parents check their Outschool messages, and let me know if you have any questions or concerns. This is a condensed course, so work will be uploaded a week before for students who are working at a faster rate. Please note once all 17 weeks of lessons have been uploaded, I ask that parents not withdraw because a full year of curriculum has been provided. Thank you!
