This ongoing class is designed to give students the opportunity for reflection, active note taking and leading/participating in discussions with one another about forensic science, using episodes of Forensic Files as the catalyst.
Class experience
Each week students will watch the assigned episode of Forensic Files, sometime during the week. These episodes will be from the official FilmRise True Crime Youtube channel and are completely free to access and watch. I will provide a note-taking template that students can use to reflect on the episode and jot down points that they would like to discuss or ask questions about. By participating in this discussion club students will: -practice active note-taking to help with thought organization and retention of information -lead and participate in group discussions with a goal to be respectful to all participants -share their interest in Forensic Science and hopefully pick up some new knowledge and information along the way
A note-taking template will be provided and can be filled out digitally or printed and filled out by hand.
In addition to the Outschool classroom, this class uses:
WARNING: The episodes watched and discussed will include information, photos, video testimonies, etc about actual case studies and crimes, which could include violent crimes. The episode schedule will be posted on the Outschool classroom and parents may choose to watch the episodes prior to allowing their student to watch. If you have any questions or concerns about specific information in each class, please message me prior to enrolling your student. Forensic science is an important field but the crimes can be quite disturbing to some, so please empower your student to take care of themselves by not feeling obligated to watch any episode that is too heavy or triggering for them.
