Class Experience

Embark on a journey of discovery and conflict in the Forbidden Lands. For generations, the Blood Mist shrouded the land in darkness, consuming any who dared to wander at night. But now, the mists have lifted, and the lands beckon adventurers like you to uncover their secrets and chart their expanse.

With the disappearance of the Blood Mist, you can venture into this newly accessible realm. You'll navigate a landscape rife with ancient mysteries, power struggles, and the echoes of a forgotten past. Will you seek to uncover the truth behind the legends, or will you carve out your own destiny in these uncharted territories? The Forbidden Lands are yours to explore, but tread carefully, for not all secrets are meant to be uncovered.

This is a relatively new role-playing game, published only a couple of years ago. It is low fantasy world, written by acclaimed fantasy writer Erik Granström. It has all the classic tropes of fantasy - elves, dwarves, halflings, swords, sorcery, dungeons, castles, dragons and treasure - but with fresh new twists. Players will explore the lands, find adventure sites, solve puzzles, slay monsters and possibly get their own Stronghold!

The rule-system is the award winning Year Zero engine, which is easier to learn than Dungeons and Dragons, and caters to every playstyle. If you want to play a fantasy game that is just as much about exploring the lands, surviving in the wilds, making friends with powerful NPCs, and crafting powerful items as it is about winning combats, this is the game for you!

This is a sandbox style roleplaying game. That means that the players decide where their characters will start, and where to go and explore. There are adventures and plots, but players decide in which order to explore them, not the Game Master, which means that it is uniquely suited for an Ongoing Class. A learner joining the game on week 6 can easily make a new character (takes about 15 minutes) and easily join the action, as the rule system takes only a few minutes to learn.

Week of July 5th.
We start play with making characters and deciding where in the world the characters will start. They also start exploring the world. This is completely randomized - random encounters could present the players with almost anything.

Week of July 12th
We continue play. Maybe this time they find their first adventure site? It could be a village, a dungeon or a castle.
we will investigate how to explore the zone, and the mechanics for searching through the ruins of the old age.

Week of July 19th
The players decide if they want to continue exploring, or investigate an adventure site, as they see fit. Perhaps they find a village where they can rest and recuperate.

Week of July 26th
Maybe this week, the adventurers find their Stronghold and set up a base?

Again, this is a sandbox game, and so the learners attending the session will decide entirely where to take the story that we tell together. That makes Forbidden Lands excellent for an Ongoing class. The world is open for the players to explore, so the adventure for each session will be decided by the players, not the GM, primarily. Thus, players during session 5 are not tied down by the decisions made by the players of session 4, but are free to explore some completely different part of the world, and make other decisions for the home base. Character creation is much faster than in DnD. In DnD, it takes a new player about an hour, if not more, to create a new character. In Forbidden Lands, it takes closer to 15-20 minutes, because the rule-system is fast and easy to learn. Thus, if a learner joins after week 4 or even later, we can build a character together quickly and then jump straight in, as the game system is easy to learn.
