Foraging for Food, Wildcrafting, Food Forests and Getting Out in Nature!
An exploration in nature often gets us thinking about the ways to use the materials we find. This is a discussion based class for wildcrafting and using natural materials and veers off into learner led discussions around permaculture.
Class Experience
This ongoing class is part of our Self Sufficiency Series. We will discuss learner led topics each week that don't build from class to class. Drop in and talk about what you find in nature, recipes for wildcrafting, crafts we can do with natural materials local to us. Let's talk about plants in our area and best practices for wildcrafting. Let's discover what we can do to preserve the environment that we explore. Let's talk about food forests, permaculture and any other ideas you might...
- Learners will get a chance to explore each other's foraging interests and share/present information important to them. *This class relates directly to B.C. Ministry of Education Curricular Core Competencies around Ecology and the Environment. Social classes satisfy BC’s curriculum/BC Ministry of Education for K–12 around communication studies through: acquiring and presenting information; focusing on intent and purpose in delivery; and connecting and engaging with others.
Yvonne has been a forager in her area for a long time. With Girl Guides, she has taught local foraging skills and every year uses these skills to compliment her gardening. She is really interested in Food Forests and Permaculture. Carly has been an experienced forager for her coastal area for years.
We are a Neuroaffirming Organization! We support learners with different needs and meet them where they are at. We are experienced scribes and enjoy exploring different approaches to writing and creating for each learner.
It's important that you accompany your learner and if you are not sure of the type of plant you are looking at, confirm it with someone in your neighborhood who might!
