Did you know that unicorns are the national animal of Scotland? Or that people have wondered about unicorns for at least 1500 years? In this relaxed, short class, students will come together to share their love of unicorns! First, students will introduce themselves. Then, they will share what they adore about these mythical creatures, along with a favorite unicorn item (such as a stuffed animal or figurine.) The teacher will share a few fun unicorn "facts" with the class. This will include a brief discussion of real life animals that may have inspired people to come up with the idea of unicorns. Students will complete a short writing and/or drawing exercise, also focused on unicorn "facts"/their ideas about unicorns. Students will then share and discuss what they created. Students should come to class prepared to share their ideas. They should also be prepared to listen respectfully and kindly to others. It's okay if the students have different ideas. Unicorns are mythical creatures, after all!
Learning Goals
This is a fun class meant to encourage connection around a shared topic. Students will also have the opportunity to be creative, and draw and/or write about something they love -- unicorns!
