For the Love of Pets, Remembering Those We Have Loved Pet Loss for Ages 8-12
Class experience
This ongoing class is to allow learners whose pet has died to have a safe, inclusive place to share the love they have for their pet with others who have lost a pet. It will be mostly discussion based, in an accepting environment. For those that like to draw, write, or make items, there will be opportunities, however for those that just wish to share with others, they will be allowed to choose what they do or do not want to do. A Journal/Memory book will be provided in the classroom for...
Learners will share memories of their pets and have the opportunity to make something to remember them.
I am a certified school counselor with 30 years experience, including working with small groups for grief. This is not "therapy", just a way for students to remember their loved one.
A journal/memory book will be provided for those that wish to use it. Students should have normal materials, paper, crayons, colored pencils, and other basic supplies. For some classes we might use pictures of their pet if they have some copies (could use copier and copy some favorite pictures). For those that chose to make a memory box, a small box. Items that belonged to the pet or about the pet for the memory box.
I will share with the parents lists of books or other resources that might be helpful for their learner.
