Football Trivia, Grammar, and Essay Writing
How does one make learning about grammar and writing fun? Combine it with lots of football talk and trivia! That is what will happen in this five week course. It's also a great way for students to socialize around a common topic, improve their grammar and will improve their essay writing.

What better way to create a fun experience for students to improve their grammar and writing skills through exploring the great game of football. I will combine my love of football with my interest in helping students develop grammar and writing skills. This class is also a great place for students to socialize with their fellow football fans. Each class will have a grammar and writing lesson, a writing assignment, and a trivia game. During each class, there will be time for students to...
All of these learning goals are based on common core standards that I have taught in classrooms. By the end of this class, the students will: -Learn to use proper punctuation in writing -Learn to use commas in complex and compound sentences -Learn to write effective persuasive essays that use supporting evidence
I am a credentialed teacher in California and have taught English, Literature, and Social Studies in public and private schools for five years. I have a BA in education and and MA in history.
There will be weekly writing assignments that will be due by the beginning of the next class. The assignments are small in nature but important as they give students a chance to practice the skill they're learning. There is one larger assignment that will be due on the final day of class. It is a persuasive essay on a football related topic.
Students will need a notebook to write in. Homework assignments can be done on a word document.
I will assess submitted student work using a rubric. Parents will be notified of their child's progress in the class by a written report.
1 hour 20 minutes per week in class, and an estimated 1 - 2 hours per week outside of class.
