Class Experience

Does your teen like to take pictures of food? I do too! This class will cover essential food photography techniques, allowing students to photograph food while getting to know other students with similar passions. Students can work towards an end project: creating a mock magazine spread showcasing their food images.

Students will go from simply snapping a picture to understanding what creates strong food images and learning how to execute the techniques to develop food magazine-style images.

In each class, we will go over food photography techniques and how to plan and shoot food images, followed by a hands-on time where the students will have time to begin photographing their food images using the techniques learned in class.

Using Canva (a free program), students can work towards creating a mock food magazine spread, putting together the techniques learned in class and showcasing their food images. Students are welcome to share their magazine spread with the class area and submit it to me for review.

Also, during the week, I will share optional exercises in the class area so your teen can practice between classes. Students are also welcome to share images for feedback.

Teacher expertise and credentials

TEACHING PHILOSOPHY

"Everyone has a creative side that grows with practice and nurturing. "You can't use up creativity. The more you use, the more you have." - Maya Angelou

As an Outschool teacher, I will share my passion and knowledge with young photographers and artists in a supportive environment. I will gently guide, encourage exploration and teach skills to help students become proficient and confident in taking technically correct images while unlocking their creative and visual voice as artists.

I want every student to have a meaningful experience in my class and, each week, feel inspired and excited to practice their new skills.

In a safe and encouraging environment, I invite my students to learn through experimentation while embracing the creative process and discovering the joy of finding their voice as photographers. I want to help students feel comfortable experimenting, challenging themselves, and developing their talents while growing a love for photography.

I offer introductory classes and provide some creative photography classes at a more intermediate and advanced level. I also offer private classes or small groups for older teens with experience in photography looking to pursue photography as a career choice. Private lessons are customized and can focus on creating a professional portfolio or specific topics the student chooses.

Thank you for taking the time to read, and I hope to see you in one of my classes!
