In this one-time class, we will be baking a delicious seasonal pumpkin spice crisp that is so easy, you can enjoy it again and again throughout the season. Artists will also compose a drawing of a pumpkin in vibrant chalk pastels!
Class experience
After short introductions, a quick review of kitchen safety rules, and our recipe, we will get started and mix the batter. I will lead bakers step-by-step through their recipe and they can see me make one on my food cam as well. Once in the oven, we will review our recipe card, share some fun seasonal trivia, and do a quick art project. Please have ingredients and art supplies ready since we will need to start quickly. My goal is for bakers to be able to learn to make a delicious pumpkin crisp to enjoy now and make again throughout the Fall season for family and friends. I hope as artists, they can enjoy some time making a beautiful and vibrant chalk pastel drawing of a pumpkin, learning to layer and blend the colors in a rich composition.
I love cooking and baking and making real food with simple ingredients for myself and my family. Whenever I make this seasonal dessert, everyone falls in love with it! I have been baking this one for about 18 years, multiple times through the season and year. I enjoy sharing my food with friends and family, and am excited to share this in an Outschool class for young bakers to try! I graduated with a Bachelor of Arts degree from UCLA and have enjoyed working with vibrant colors through markers, paints, and chalk pastels. My personal style is more abstract, graphic, and even impressionistic. I have been drawn to using chalk pastels in my own work over the years because I love the instant gratification it brings to see the colors pop and dance off the page in impressive ways that are not hard to learn.

Safety is most important! Although we will review kitchen safety best practices, bakers will be using various tools and appliances including the oven, of course, so parents or a trusted adult/older sibling should be nearby to provide assistance and supervision in person.
