Class Experience

This class is taught in English.
I am an experienced educator, with over 25 years in the education of children. I have worked inpublic, private and homeschool settings. As a public school teacher, I taught various ages of children with a variety of educational needs in my work as a certified special needs teacher & intervention specialist. During my college summers I worked in camp leadership serving inner-city children in an outdoor setting. I currently home-school my 2 teen boys and have for the past 15+ years. I have taught nature study classes at my home-school co-op, taught art at a private school and I also work with local parks as a certified volunteer naturalist in historical interpretation and nature education. I have been a distance educator on Outschool since 2016.
Students are invited to do a journal between clubs to share in class.
This is what you need: 1 A nature journal : A size that works best for your child to hold comfortably but not too small that it limits their entry. Something without lines and a thicker weight. I like spiral bound because it will stay open when they are in the field. here is a suggestion. 2. Pencils : Several sharpened pencils or mechanical pencils with erasures 3. Choice of Color Supplies : there are lots of ways to get color in your journals. I suggest starting with a small set of colored pencils. Then you can move into watercolor or other things. 4. Print out the Student Choice Challenge Sheet ( given after sign up for the club) 5. Various items easily found around the house or outside.
40 minutes per week in class, and an estimated 0 - 1 hours per week outside of class.
All abilities are welcome in this course. However, please be advised that some children will need parental support in the way of accountabilty between class times on given assignments and scribing as needed. Please remember that Outschool classes are for learners aged 3-18 and so we ask that do your best to stay off-screen during class time and wait until after class to ask questions to the teacher.
