This is a not a beginner's class. Students will learn the melody to sacred and/or secular Christmas music. This will be an echo method and finger maps. Students should know how to position fingers and to make musical tone on the recorder.

Description

Class Experience

Although this class is 50 minutes, it is fast paced, no time to get bored.  The students will learn the basics of how to play musical sounds using the recorder.  The class is structured in imitation format.  I demonstrate.  The student follows or echoes.  If time allows, each student will perform their song for the other students in the class.

Students will need a sheet of paper and pencil to write their finger maps.

After completing this class, the students will be able to sound notes on...

The students will review the following:
1. How to hold the recorder instrument properly
2. The proper way to blow into the recorder instrument
3. How to play 3-5 notes the right and left hand

Students will learn:
4. How to create and fill in a finger map
5. Learn the notes to a secular or sacred Christmas song among the selections available.
6.  Be able to use their finger map to play their song.

I am a certified music teacher.  I have been teaching music and recorder instrument in the public school setting for 20 years.  I have been teaching music to students in an online platform for over a year.

The students will have no homework for this class.  The students will be encouraged to practice their new recorder skills at home.

Students will need:
One soprano recorder instrument (Baroque)
One or two 1" squares of paper
Paper/pencil to take notes (if needed)

Learners will not need to use any apps or websites beyond the standard Outschool tools.

The students will perform a song from their finger map.

50 minutes per week in class, and an estimated 0 - 1 hours per week outside of class.
