Class Experience

US Grade 7 - 10
Students will be taught about Halloween's history, customs, traditions, and folklore in this one-time class. We will read a couple of Halloween-themed creepy stories. This class will answer questions such as:
1. What is the connection between Halloween and witches & black cats?
2. Why do we carve pumpkins for Halloween?
3. Why do we wear Halloween costumes and go trick-or-treating?
4. What is the deal with ghost stories and haunted houses on Halloween?
5. What are some of the ancient customs and traditions associated with Halloween?
6. How and why have Halloween and other related holidays/festivals been celebrated throughout cultures & time periods?

I will open the class by asking students about any Halloween traditions and customs they have. Then I will share slides and (if applicable) video clips to illustrate the ideas presented in this class. I encourage student participation and offer opportunities for my students to engage with me and with one another through discussions and question/answer sessions.

No prior knowledge is needed for this class.
