40 mins in-class hoursClass Experience
In this 40-minute class learners will fold two types of mini-books, each from one sheet of paper using simple supplies and basic book making techniques. These little books are fast and easy to make with minimal supplies and make the perfect memo books, Zentangle books, mini journals, idea books, or story books. The foundation of each book will be a basic accordion fold. The accordion fold is an important bookbinding structure used in many different binding techniques with limitless possibilities. Making accurate and precise folds is important to creating beautiful books. And there is no better place to start than the accordion fold. This class will cover the 2-4-8 accordion fold method that yields the most uniform accordion structures. This beginner class is excellent for those new to bookbinding and will lay a great foundation for later classes and more complex bookbinding methods. Skills and information covered: —How to make two different mini-books —How to create a crisp and accurate fold —The technique for the most precise accordion folds —Basic bookbinding terms This is an interactive and hands-on class. I will instruct step-by-step as we fold together. My goal is for students to be able to learn the skills to make many more books on their own after class and lay a foundation for more complex bookbinding methods in the future. Let's make some books!

Supply List
—5 sheets of 8.5” x 11” or A4 copy paper —12" x 12" paper, if available —Scissors —Pencil —Bone folder, if available (or scissors handle) *A note about paper: learners can complete this class with 5-6 sheets of 8.5” x 11” copy paper. I will be demonstrating with dark paper so learners can see my fold lines better on camera. I will also show variations with 12” x 12” paper. Learners will still learn excellent technique and the principals of accurate folding with standard copy paper! In fact, I recommend it as a good practice paper. After class, when it is convenient, learners can get different papers to experiment with colors, weights, sizes, and patterns to make an endless variety of books.
