Class Experience
Focus and Flow Pilates Study Break is an ongoing Pilates Mat class specifically designed as a pick-me-up for the learner wanting to energize for the day ahead, rejuvenate and refocus in between classes and activities, or let go and flow at the end of the day. This class is taught in English.
The learner will walk away with a "taste" of what the pilates method looks and feels like. Pilates is similar to yoga, as the method and exercises focus on full-body movement. At times, there will be a focus on breathwork, alignment of the body, exercises to strengthen the belly and back, exercises to strengthen the arms and legs, and exercises that focus on stretching. With regular practice, students often gain: - More body awareness - Better coordination - Experience more focus and mental clarity - Develop a positive sense of self During the class, the instructor will do her best to offer different ways to do a particular exercise to fit the needs of the learner, as there is always more than one version to do each exercise. The hope is the learner will walk away feeling energized, focused, and confident! Ready to tackle the next part of their day!
I am a comprehensively trained and certified Pilates instructor. I have over 600 hours of training under my belt and have been teaching Pilates for over 10 years and have been a dance and theater educator for over 20 years. I love sharing my passion and expertise in movement with all ages. I find that a regular Pilates practice can help benefit children and teens by instilling confidence in themselves as they grow strong, focused, centered, and flexible.
No outside supplies will be needed other than a clear space to move in. A yoga mat or a few towels can be supportive and helpful when doing the exercises that require the learner to lie on the floor, but not necessary.
30 minutes per week in class, and maybe some time outside of class.
Disclaimer: Parents/Guardians/Caregivers please read: - By signing up for this class you are aware of, and understand, the risk of injury. - You (the parent/guardian/caregiver) fully release the instructor (Miss Dori) from responsibility. - They (Miss Dori) will not be responsible for monitoring how well the student is maintaining safety. - By signing up for this class, you (the parent, guardian, and/or caregiver) understand that this is your responsibility, to offer such supervision. Please Communicate: - Any modifications or information pertinent to the learner that will help me to better address their movement needs at least 24 hours before the start of class so that I have adequate time to plan for variations. - If communicated less than 24 hours, there is no guarantee that I will be able to address such in the same way. - Within flex course as well as a "live" course, I do my best to offer modifications for any movers that may need additional variations/support due to any limitations they may have. My hope is to fully inspire them to move with grace and confidence. During class: - Please provide closeby supervision. - Create an open workout space free of any items that could potentially trip or cause the learner to slip. - Encourage your learner to wear clothing that is comfortable and easy to move in such as yoga pants, sweat pants, t-shirts, slip-free socks, bare feet, etc. - Have a water bottle close by in case your learner feels they need something to drink. - As movement is performed on the floor. It would be ideal to have a yoga mat, be in a room with carpet, or have access to multiple towels the learner could lie down on as needed.
