Class Experience

Students will be able to:
1. Discuss what is a chemical reaction.
2. Identify energy changes and rates of reactions.
3. Demonstrate a chemical reaction through a hand-on experiment.
4. Categorize chemical changes based on key indicators.

As a chemistry teacher for the last 21 years, I have always found that students learn better through application. Providing an enriching environment helps hook the student while teaching underlying chemistry concepts.
No homework. Lab report will be available if the students would like to recreate at home.
 1 file available upon enrollment
(2) empty water bottles, 1 packet of dry yeast, 1 T sugar, piece of paper to use as funnel, 1/2 c warm water, ½ c hydrogen peroxide (3%), dishwashing liquid, food coloring, cookie sheet or pan.
Learners will not need to use any apps or websites beyond the standard Outschool tools.
Teacher will conduct informal assessments through class participation. Students will also be evaluated based their lab experiment results and reflection components.
45 minutes per week in class, and maybe some time outside of class.
May need assistance in setting up the experiment.
