Beginner - Advanced Level
This will be an ongoing tutoring where we will practice the basics of flute and will prepare for any specific projects that the student might have, such as orchestra/band concerts, auditions, solos, music classes, concerts. We can also prepare our own concert if the student and family wish to do so. The class will be structured as a practice session so that students can continue practicing on their own and keep making progress. We will learn different techniques to practice new music, and the best ways to improve our prior knowledge. We usually sing the rhythm, then say the notes, then practice the fingerings, then play each note. Then we will alternate, (I.e I play one bar and the student the next) if there are difficult parts we work on the combinations with different techniques. When the student is familiar enough with the piece I have them play the whole thing, record and listen back to find ways to improve it, and the we work on that together, the idea is to teach them how to perform but also how to be critical about the result and how to improve it The goals of the course will be set according to each student’s level , expectations and projects. We will cover the following topics: Theme 1: Breathing , position of the flute and quarter notes and eight notes Theme 2: Embouchure and Rhythm: whole notes, half notes, quarter notes, eight notes. Theme 3: Articulation + rhythm exercises Theme 4: Notes G ,A, B and Mary had a little Lamb Theme 5: Notes G, A, B practice Theme 6: Notes C, D, E F# middle register + song Theme 7 : G major Scale + sound exercises + song Theme 8: Create your own melody in G major Theme 9: Audition: play for your family and friends Theme 10: F major scale ( Bb new note) + song and book exercises Theme 11: F major scale practice+ exercises + song Theme 12: Middle register Theme 13: Bb major scale ( new notes: Eb) Theme 14: Bb major practice + book+ song Theme 15: Review scales G, F , Bb + favorite song Theme 16: Audition: Play for your family and friends
Learning Goals
The goals will be tailored to each student according to their needs.
If the student has a specific project, that will be our priority and we will focus on improving as much as we can for that project: Sound, Rhythm, intonation, runs, performance.
