Syllabus
6 Lessons
over 3 WeeksLesson 1:
Getting Started: Learning the Parts of the Flute Toot!
We will begin by learning to name the parts of the Flute Toot. Next we will use funny faces to locate the facial muscles used to play the flute. We will have fun with some silly finger exercises for dexterity and learn to read and clap some basic rhythms.
Lesson 2:
Making our First Sound!
After a brief review of last week's concepts, we will learn to direct the air with our lips to create sound on the flute. Students will learn how to play some rhythms on the Flute Toot, how to properly hold the flute and where to place their fingers.
Lesson 3:
Finding our Fingers!
In this lesson, students will learn how to properly hold the flute for playing and where to place their fingers. The will learn to play their first note "B."
Lesson 4:
Reading Music!
Students will be introduced to the lines and spaces of the treble clef. Additionally, students will learn to play a new note: "A"

Supply List
Every student will need a Flute Toot. They are available for about $30 on a variety of online sights. For your convenience and to see what they look like, here is a link to purchase it on Amazon. They come in a variety of colors. It is held to the side (like an orchestral flute). The student blows across the instrument. It has flaps in place of keys making it easier to manage for small children. https://a.co/d/ce1JHNa Please see my welcome post for instructions on removing the first-note lip plate. Other helpful materials include a mirror.

Teacher expertise and credentials
Hello! I’m Mrs. Germann and my love for flute playing and teaching runs deep! With over 25 years of experience, I am devoted to teaching flute to students of all ages and all ability levels. My degrees in music (BA in music education and MM in performance) have provided me with many teaching opportunities. Over the years, I’ve had the privilege of teaching elementary band in the California public schools, teaching flute and music appreciation at community colleges in Florida, directing a middle school honors flute ensemble, and, of course, teaching private flute lessons!
Currently, I teach in Ohio at Stivers School for the Arts in Dayton, at my studio “GIFT” in Kettering, and with the New Horizons Program through the University of Dayton. Whether it’s adult beginners in the New Horizons Program, the very young child in a KinderFlute class, or middle/high school students……there is nothing more rewarding than being able to share the joy of learning a musical instrument with someone new. I encourage you to find your voice, tell your story, share your gift!
