Students will learn the fundamentals of playing the flute, such as breathing, holding the flute, notes, rhythm, etc. through weekly original instructional videos, assignments, and worksheets.

 Week 1
Lesson 1
"Fun with the headjoint: Part 1 from 📚FLUTE 101📚 Book"
In this lesson we will learn about proper flute breathing, and proper flute exhale; about how to make "flute embouchure", and how to play sounds on the "headjoint" of the flute. We will also learn a few important music terms, as well as learn about quarter notes, and half notes.
 Week 2
Lesson 2
"Fun with the Headjoint: Part 2 from 📚FLUTE 101📚 Book"
We will continue building on what we learned in Lesson 1 with learning more sounds on the headjoint, as well as learning flute articulation. We will also learn some more music terms and more rhythms.
 Week 3
Lesson 3
"Lesson 1: from 📚FLUTE 101📚 Book"
In this lesson we will continue building on what we learned in Lesson 1 & Lesson 2. In addition, we will learn about the 3 different parts of the flute. We will learn how to assemble the flute correctly. We will learn about home keys on the flute; how to position the left hand correctly. The notes B, A, and G. And we will learn to play some songs with those notes
Lesson 4
"Lesson 1A: Duets from 📚FLUTE 101📚 Book"
In this lesson we will learn 2 duets (when 2 flutes play together), and students will be able to play their part together with a recording of my flute part.
 Week 4
Lesson 5
"Lesson 2 from 📚FLUTE 101📚 Book"
In this lesson we will continue working on everything we have learned in the previous 3 weeks of lessons. We will also learn a new note ("C"), as well as how to position the right hand on the flute correctly. We will do some rhythms, and learn more songs with 4 notes (B, A, G, & C). Students will also be offered some suggestions of good flute music to listen to, and an opportunity to share their observations about the music. There will also be an interactive note-identification activity included
 Week 5
Lesson 6
"Lesson 3 from 📚FLUTE 101📚 Book"
In this lesson we will continue working on everything we have learned so far. We will also learn how to play high sounds both on the headjoint AND on the flute, and lots of tips on how to be able to play high notes more easily. We will learn the high versions of the notes B, A, G, C. We will learn several songs with low and high notes
 Week 6
Lesson 7
"Lesson 3A from 📚FLUTE 101📚 Book"
We will learn about "intonation" and "tuning the flute". We will also learn how to tune the flute when playing duets. Then we will play several duet songs.
 Week 7
Lesson 8
"Lesson 4 from 📚FLUTE 101📚 Book"
In this lesson we will learn new notes: -- middle F & low F, and middle E & low E. We will also learn more new songs with these new notes. Students will also learn of some "mnemonics" to help them remember where the notes are on the music staff.
Lesson 9
"Lesson 4A from 📚FLUTE 101📚 Book"
This lesson will focus on playing duets with all the notes/rhythms we learned throughout the class. Students will also be exposed to a number of listening suggestions of beautiful flute music, and some prompts to guide their active listening process.
 Week 8
Lesson 10
"Lesson 5 & Lesson 5A from 📚FLUTE 101📚 Book"
In addition to reviewing everything we have learned so far, we will also learn how to play a new note (B-flat) and the 2 different finger combinations for playing that note. We will also learn about what "legato" means, and how to play "slurs".
Students will learn the basics of playing the flute , such as breathing, flute embouchure, making a sound on the flute, some notes on the flute, as well as basic rhythms and songs through the "flute 101" method book
Homework Offered
Students will have to practice 3-4 times a week for at least 10 minutes per day in order to make progress in the class. It is also fine if students do not practice and just do the lesson, but please be aware that there will not be much progress then. :-) In music classes home practice is really important for making progress!
