Beginner Level
What will be taught? In this class, students will strengthen their reading comprehension, vocabulary, and fluency skills while exploring creative and real-world connections to storytelling. Using song lyrics, like those from Taylor Swift’s storytelling-focused albums, students will learn how language can express emotions, tell stories, and spark imagination. What topics will this class cover? Reading strategies like close reading, identifying main ideas, and summarizing. Vocabulary-building through context clues in song lyrics and stories. Comprehension skills using creative examples like lyrics, stories, and discussions. Real-world applications of reading, such as analyzing themes, emotions, and character development. How is this class structured? The class will follow a structured but interactive format: Introduction: Brief overview of the day’s topic and warm-up activity. Focus Song/Story: We’ll read through lyrics, highlight key vocabulary, and discuss the meaning and emotions behind the words. Interactive Activities: Read lyrics, answer questions, and participate in guided discussions. Practice & Check Understanding: Use multiple-choice and open-ended questions to solidify what we’ve learned. How will I teach? I use a blend of direct instruction, interactive tools, and student-led discussions. I encourage curiosity and creativity, helping learners feel confident as they analyze and connect with the material. I also incorporate music and storytelling to keep the learning process engaging and fun. What’s my teaching style? I believe learning should be interactive, fun, and meaningful. I focus on creating a supportive and respectful environment where all students feel heard. I use games, music, and hands-on activities to make the class dynamic and engaging, and I adapt to the needs of each student to ensure everyone gets the most out of the experience. How much will learners interact with me? Learners will have plenty of opportunities to interact through games like Quizizz, music analysis, and group discussions. I’ll guide them in answering questions, encourage them to share their thoughts, and check their understanding with multiple-choice and open-ended questions. This ensures every student stays engaged and gets the support they need to grow. This class is perfect for students who enjoy music, stories, and interactive learning experiences! Let’s make reading and comprehension a fun adventure.
