Class Experience
Develop colored pencil skills while exploring The Zentangle Method of drawing through this guided botanical wreath art project. We will learn patterns and shading techniques with graphite and ink and use those skills to create depth with colored pencils. This class is perfect for beginning and advanced artists and can easily scale to challenge any level of ability. Students will learn: *The Zentangle Method® and six nature-themed patterns *Black & White Shading, using a graphite pencil and blender, to create highlights, lowlights, shadows, roundness, and depth *Colored pencil techniques including, creating highlights, lowlights, shadows, roundness, and depth *Weaving together patterns (tangling) to create a cohesive composition
I am a Certified Zentangle Teacher (CZT). I am trained in the Zentangle Method® and the best practices for teaching the art form. I decided to pursue the certification after several years of working with Zentangle patterns in my own art pieces. I regularly create designs in both black & white and color. I particularly enjoy using colored pencils, watercolors, and chalk pastels in my creations.
Each week's work will consist of a series of short videos for the week's lessons and an assignment for creating the art pieces. Students are not required to post their final art pieces, but it will be strongly encouraged.
Students should have: *High quality colored pencils, such as Prismacolor, including a white pencil *White mix media paper (minimum 98lb/160g) *A black fine tipped ink pen (such as a .01 or .02 Micron) *A soft sketch pencil (2B or HB) *An eraser, preferably sand eraser for colored pencils and ink *A blending stump or tortillon *Optional - Colorless blender pencil
No live meetings, and an estimated 1 - 2 hours per week outside of class.
